Medicare Hospital Hardship Exception Application for PY 2018
May 22, 2019
If your hospital did not attest and was unable to meet the Medicare Promoting Interoperability (PI) reporting requirements for the program year (PY) 2018 due to a significant hardship, your hospital may be eligible to submit for a hardship exception. If your facility meets the requirements and can provide proof for a significant hardship, your facility could avoid a negative payment adjustment.
Hardship Exception Application Details
- The application for eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) is now available online as a web-based application.
- If an electronic submission is not possible, you may verbally submit your application over the phone by calling the QualityNet Help Desk at (866) 288-8912.
- The eligible hospitals hardship submission deadline is July 1, 2019.
- The CAHs hardship submission deadline is November 30, 2019.
You may want to check out the Medicare PI program hardship exception fact sheet. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website also has more information about payment adjustments and hardship.
