Promoting Interoperability
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare/Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) incentive program, formerly known as Meaningful Use, will now be known as Promoting Interoperability (PI). The new focus of the PI program is to be more flexible and less burdensome for providers and to improve interoperability and patients’ access to their health information.
Eligible Medicaid providers, eligible hospitals, critical access hospitals (CAHs) and dual-eligible hospitals will continue to report to the Medicare/Medicaid EHR incentive program.
All Medicare eligible providers who used to attest to the Medicare EHR incentive program will report to the advancing care information performance category under the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). See our MIPS page for more details.
Our PI blog will provide a guide through PI reporting requirements and deadlines, along with helpful advice, tips and best practices.
