National Influenza Vaccination Week

Flu is like a secret. It is best kept to yourself.
The flu, also known as influenza, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. These viruses change yearly, so it is important to get a flu shot every year.
Did you know that more than 100,000 people are hospitalized every year because of the flu?
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting immunized. If you have not gotten one yet, don’t worry. It is not too late. You can get it through February and still be protected! If you are 65 years or older, it is especially important to get your flu shot. The immune system weakens with age, and influenza is often quite serious for people 65 and older.
Why get a flu shot:
- Protect yourself from the flu
- Help stop the spread of the flu
- Avoid complications like pneumonia and ear and sinus infections
Where to get a flu shot:
- Pharmacies
- Primary doctors
- Hospitals
- City/county health departments
Tips to avoid the flu:
- Avoid people who are sick
- Wash your hands often
- Cover your cough to stop the spread
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
And remember, if you already have the flu, keep it to yourself.
