Quality Award Winners in Alaska
Hospital Quality Awards
Each hospital demonstrated a commitment to providing high-quality patient care. All recipients had to reach a measurement of at least 45 days without two of three Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) or reach 90 days or more without one of three HAIs. The three HAIs measured were catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line-associated blood stream infections and Clostridium difficile infections. Every winner surpassed the award measurements and went at least 120 days or more without an infection for one or more HAIs.

2017 Nursing Home Quality Awards
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) supports the National Nursing Home Quality Care Collaborative (NNHQCC) through the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) program. Alaska’s QIO is Mountain-Pacific. The NNHQCC’s goals are to instill quality and performance improvement practices, eliminate healthcare-acquired conditions and improve resident satisfaction. As a measure to reflect achievement of these goals, CMS created a “composite score” system. The composite score is a way to assess quality of care in long-term care facilities and is based on 13 publicly reported quality measures—the lower the score, the better.
