Most Important MU Task
September 29, 2016
Written by Patty Kosednar
We are coming down to the last 90 days of 2016 and I’m sure like me, you are waiting to hear if CMS will approve a 90 day reporting period for 2016. Hopefully we will hear from CMS on that within the next few weeks. Until we do, the most important thing you could do, regardless of if there will be a 90 day period or not, is run your 2016 year to date meaningful use reports for all of the threshold (non yes/no) objectives for your hospital and/or providers.
The MU reports will identify your current performance for each objective, flag any issues and help prioritize the remaining meaningful use tasks needed for this year. Hopefully the reports will confirm that your hospital/providers are all on track.
If your hospital or providers are not passing all the threshold objectives, you should immediately focus on identifying and solving the barrier or issue. Most often the resolution is education/training on the correct workflows in your EHR. If it is more complicated than that (i.e. your EHR needs configuration or set up) you will want to resolve the problem quickly so you do not run out of time.
I know you have a lot of priorities for your time each day; however I am encouraging you to take a few minutes this week to run your meaningful use reports to help identify your remaining MU tasks for the year. Think of how good it will feel to be proactive on this 🙂 .
